Welcome to our new challenge at More than Words!

July 2016 MAIN challenge 

Word Inspiration - SMILE
Creative Challenge - SKETCH

What does the word SMILE inspire you to create? You can choose to add the word somewhere on your project or simply be inspired by it. Please explain in your blog post how the word inspired you, if not already obvious.

Use this fabulous SKETCH, designed by our very own DT member Helen Hapsi, as inspiration. Feel free to turn the sketch in any direction you prefer. You can interpret any element of it as you wish, as long as we can see that it was the basis of your creation.

VERY IMPORTANT! You have to incorporate both parts of the challenge, the word inspiration and the creative challenge, on your project to be eligible to win.  When we vote, we specifically look for projects that display BOTH requirements, and not just the word or the creative challenge.  Just look at our DT members' interpretation as example.

Remember that you must include our board image and a link to our blog in your entry post.

This month's word inspiration reminded me of this old family photo I had.Those two girls from Cyprus, friends of my grandmother , are giving their most innocent SMILE to the photographer. I really wanted to use it on a layout and this was the perfect opportunity ! I followed the SKETCH for my project by creating a modeling past background.

Word Inspiration - IMAGINE

Creative Challenge - GET MESSY

Use the word 'IMAGINE' as inspiration to create your project! You can choose to use the word somewhere on your project or to simply be inspired to create from it. Please explain in your blog post how it inspired you, if it's not obvious.

Our creative challenge this month is to ‘GET MESSY’! We want you to stretch your creativity! Mixed media techniques are so popular and you don’t have to be a pro at them to have fun! All you need is a little imagination so take out your paints, inks, mists, sprays, texture pastes and more to create a fabulous background or elements for your layout, canvas or art journal page. Getting messy is just part of the fun!

I used the word IMAGINE as title to my project because this photo was taken at the ruins of Pompey where you can only imagine the magnitute of the catastrophy. I got really MESSY creating this one, using lots of media and different colours !

This challenge is open to layouts, canvases and art journal pages only.

Word Inspiration - MOMENT

Creative Challenge - CLOCKS

What does the word MOMENT inspire you to create?

You can choose to use the word somewhere on your project or simply be inspired by it.  Please explain in your blog post how the word inspired you if not already obvious.

For this month's CLOCKS creative challenge, we ask that you use a clock or any part of a clock on your project.  You can choose from dials, hands, cogs and gears, pocket chains, pendulums or all of the above.

OK! No time to waste! We'll be counting the hours until we see what you create!

The second girl on the right is my mother, just having fun with her friends on their last day as school students in 1968.  An unforgettable MOMENT for all of them!  For the CLOCKS part of the challenge, I used some metal elements from real clocks, gears and springs.

Ιts one of my favorite photos, because they had that amazing idea to write on their school bags the word " the end" with a piece of chalk ! It was a spontaneous decision, an unexpected moment that wrote history to their friendship!
